Justin Bieber has found some unusual fans in Metallica.
Metallica say are proud to be Beliebers.
Although James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo are known for their heavy metal songs, they are partial to a pop tune or two as well. Justin Bieber recently said the group’s 1989 hit One is his main “jam” and they are excited by the news.
“Are we Beliebers? Yes,” guitarist James told Q.
Drummer Lars added: “Is it possible to have respect for him without being a Belieber? I think the kid’s really talented and obviously to go through what he’s going through at that early age must be a mindf**k. So the fact that he still goes out there and does it, I admire that and I think he’s super talented, so I guess I am kind of a Belieber. If he likes One and Liam Gallagher likes him, OK, there you go.”
Justin has repeatedly hit the headlines for his antics this year, including being accused of smoking marijuana and driving dangerously. Bassist Robert hinted he keeps up with the news by issuing a caveat to his support of the 19-year-old.
“As long as he stays out of trouble, I’ll be a Belieber,” he said.
Justin isn’t the only star who has been open about his admiration for Metallica. The band were astounded to hear the Prince of Bahrain was a fan, with Lars recalling another unusual follower. “Donny Osmond came to a show in Long Beach Arena in 1986 when we were supporting Ozzy Osbourne. He was there to see Metallica, that blew our minds,” he laughed.
