An ill-advised request saw psychedelic pop sensation MGMT get pummeled with shoes onstage in California.

Pitchfork draws our attention to the 107.7 The End blog, which reports that MGMT member James Richardson got himself in too deep at a live show on the weekend.
At the beginning of the video, it looks like Andrew VanWyngarden places a gifted bra on a speaker.
Since the craziness wasn’t enough, Richardson asked the crowd at the U.S. Open of Surfing on Huntington Beach to “give me your left shoe right now!”
The crowd immediately obliged, and before he could finish saying “that was probably a bad idea” the shoes started raining down.
He calms the crowd with a ‘I think we have enough footwear for now” but of course that doesn’t stop them.
