Miami Sound Machine Classic Reissue Put On Hold

A little over a week ago, Vibe On Records announced a new, deluxe, version of the Miami Sound Machine’s breakthrough English album, Primitive Love.

The band had already released seven Spanish albums between 1977 and 1984 when they released their first in English, Eyes of Innocence. A year later, they finally broke onto the American charts with Primitive Love which hit number 23 on the Billboard 200. The album included four hits, Conga (1985 / #10), Bad Boy (1986 / #8), Words Get In the Way (1986 / #5) and Falling in Love (Uh-Oh) (1986 / #25).

The Deluxe Edition was to include 23 bonus tracks on two discs including dance and club mixes, Spanish versions and other remixes; however, on Monday, Vibe On announced that the album was not going to see the light of day anytime in the near future.

According to their press statement, both Vibe On and Sony Music had worked together to assemble the package but it was the Estefans who put a stop to the album, for now, while they work on a new Spanish-language album for Gloria.

The full statement from Vibe On:

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the indefinite delay of our release of Miami Sound Machine’s Primitive Love.

Please understand that this is not the fault of Vibe On or Sony Music Entertainment, as both parties have worked tirelessly to put together a great package of rare and previously unreleased material, in addition to securing the legal rights to distribute the content therein.

Until very recently, the Estefans were working with Sony Music Entertainment in order to help Vibe On make this deluxe edition as exciting as possible. Unfortunately for us, and for you, their fans, they have decided to temporarily halt the CD’s release in order to focus all attention on Gloria Estefan’s upcoming album for Sony Latin.

We are offering full refunds to those who have pre-ordered the deluxe edition of Primitive Love, and are giving user-specific discount codes for our other catalogue titles, as a way of apologising for this delay. Refund notifications should arrive via email within 48 hours of this announcement.

During this time we will be removing existing information about Primitive Love from our website and social media platforms. We apologise for the inconvenience and encourage you to stay tuned here for more information as it becomes available! We look forward to working with the Estefans in the future and have an exciting outlook on our relationship with Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings.

Vibe On is committed to bringing some amazing titles to you very soon. We have a number of irons in the fire right now, with news to come shortly. Thank you for your patronage. It means more than you know.
