Michael Bublé’s ‘Christmas’ has now sold over 1,000,000 copies in Australia making it the 12th biggest selling album of all-time in the country.
Buble’s ‘Christmas’, released in 2011, returned to number one each year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2105 and has been the number one album on Christmas Day on the iTunes chart for the past five years.
Christmas 2016 has had an abundance of Christmas releases with Bublé continuing to outsell every other Christmas album five years in despite completion from FONJie (aka John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John and the ‘Christmas Now 2016’, ‘The Christmas Album 2016’ and ‘So Fresh The Songs For Christmas 2016’ as well as new Christmas albums from She & Him, Kylie Minogue, Pentatonix and Loretta Lynn.
FONJie’s chart position will be even more noteworthy after 6000 copies of the title were sold in Australia this week for $2 a pop. Technically those sales should still qualify for the ARIA chart under ACCC rulings in Australia forbid a manufacturing from setting a minimum price for a product meaning FONJie can be sold at any price and still legally be considered a sale.
In the past four weeks Buble’s ‘Christmas’ has been about 8000 sales in front of FONJie.
This Sunday, Bublé’s special ‘Live At The BBC’ will air on network TEN at 9pm.
