Michael Gudinski Signs Jesus Christ For Aussie Tour

What was Michael Gudinski going to do to top bringing out Bruce Springsteen? The only bigger name he could sign would be Jesus Christ and that’s exactly what Gudinski has done.

Frontier Touring is bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s London production of Jesus Christ Superstar, featuring Tim Minchin and Mel C, to Australia.

Lord Webber announced on the Jonathan Ross Show last September that Jesus Christ Superstar would come to Australia and now it is official.

In a statement, Andrew Lloyd Webber said, “I’m thrilled that Australia is to be the first leg for our international tour of the new Jesus Christ Superstar. We had an overwhelming reception when the show toured the country for an astounding 84 dates in 1992. I hope this new production, which has been totally re-conceived for the 21st century, will entertain a new generation of Australian’s as well as those who already love the show.”

The show will feature Australian comedian and current star of Californication Tim Minchin as Judas, Spice Girl Mel C as Mary Magdalene, newcomer Ben Foster (from the UK production) Ben Foster as Jesus, Andrew O’Keefe as King Herod and Jon Stevens as Pontius Pilate.

Stevens played Judas in the 1992 Australian production that had a record 84-date run.
