Michael Paynter Announces New Single, Album And Tour

by Anthony Barton on January 14, 2014

in Live,New Music,News

Michael Paynter has announced the release of a new album titled ‘Weary Stars’ with the title track serving as first single.

Released on January 31, the album comes after his split from Sony Music, and is the first long-player from Paynter, who we last saw on The Voice Australia.

On the split from his label, Paynter explains,

“It was such a tough time for me. I had poured my entire life into my career for the better part of a decade, and ended up with no album. For a while there I felt like I was defeated, but once the initial feelings wore away, I felt this huge sense of relief… like I’d lifted a huge boulder off my shoulders, I felt free. Sometimes you have to know when to walk away… And just as the stars come crashing down around you, you find yourself for the first time in a long time, REALLY alive.”

The title track off the album will serve as the first single. Directed by Pete Seamons (Simple Plan, The Paper Kites), the accompanying video was shot over one day in Avalon, Victoria. Watch the video below.

To commemorate the release, Michael Paynter will embark on a national tour taking in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide, with a Perth show still being confirmed. Check below for all tour dates and ticket information.

‘Weary Stars’ will be released January 31. Purchase the single ‘Weary Stars’ here.
