Mick Jagger Calls Martin Scorsese ‘A Music Connoisseur’

Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese may come from different worlds, but their minds meet in the middle.

The pair have worked together multiple times over the years, and have become good friends in the process. Their latest project is TV show Vinyl, which is already destined to become a hit despite only the first episode airing.

“Marty is a great connoisseur of music and was one of the first to really use rock ‘n’ roll wall-to-wall in his movies,” Mick praised to Britain’s Metro newspaper. “Before Marty, people used music occasionally by not really like he did. I have admired his movies from the 1970s and we did a concert movie together, Shine a Light, so we have a kind of shorthand. We don’t find it very difficult to communicate; even though it appears we come from different worlds, we meet somewhere in the middle.”

Vinyl sees Bobby Cannavale take the lead as hedonistic record label boss Richie Finestra in the ’70s set New York drama. Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple and Mick’s son James Jagger also star.

Social media erupted into a frenzy after the first of 10 episodes hit screens, and while Rolling Stones legend Mick enjoyed the process of making a TV show, he admits it doesn’t compare to being a musician.

“The great thing about music – as opposed to making a TV series – is that you can do it on your own,” he smiled.

His love of music is, unsurprisingly, evident throughout Vinyl, though he mixes a lot of soulful sounds with his trademark rock ‘n’ roll vibe.

“In the beginning we had this character that always had the blues in his heart. And the blues is always in my heart, so it survived in this story. I know that Marty also loves this music.

“I actually never play vinyl but my children love it,” he added.
