Mick Jagger will make his debut as a TV show host on May 19 for Saturday Night Live.
Jagger has appeared on the show before (see the sketch below) but this will be his first role as the show’s host.
The May 19 will be the season finale for Saturday Night Live. Fans of the Rolling Stones will be keen to find out what, if any, news Mick will have for the 50th Anniversary celebrations for the Stones.
The actual 50th anniversary came and went last month without any acknowledgement from the band. Mick, Keith Richards and Brian Jones formed the first Rollin’ Stones in April, 1962.
The first gig for The Rollin’ Stones was in June 1962. In December, 1962 Bill Wyman joined the band and in January, 1963 the line-up was completed with the recruitment of Charlie Watts.
Keith Richard cites the arrival of Charlie as the moment they count for anniversaries.
The only official plans for a 50th Anniversary so far are a documentary to be released in September and a book later in the year.
Word is The Stones are planning some live gigs for the anniversary but it will be an extremely limited run. Bill Wyman has hinted he will be involved. Wyman left the band in 1993.
New music (with Bill) is also likely. Keith Richards has been working on new material and various members have stated they are about to hit the studio to see what they have.
Mick Jagger will also perform as well as host the SNL finale. You’ll have to wait until May 19 to see if he brings any of his famous friends along.
