The story of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, is coming to the big screen thanks to the producing duo of Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer along with Victoria Pearlman of Jagged Films and Erica Huggins of Imagine Entertainment.
The untitled film first saw life in early last decade with Grazer working with Brown up until his 2006 death.
The screenplay for the film is being written by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth (Fair Game) with writer/director Tate Taylor (The Help) in talks to direct. There’s no word if anyone is being considered to play the lead role.
Jagger said of his involvement “It’s a great honor to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerizing performer with a fascinating life.”
Brown’s widow, Tommie Rae Brown, said “I am deeply honored that Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer, two of my husband James Brown’s favorite people, have entered into a partnership to bring his inspirational story to the big screen.”
