Midnight Oil Announce Two More Final 2019 Shows in Australia

by Paul Cashmere on April 3, 2019

in News

Midnight Oil will perform for Wollongong and Canberra bringing their total 2019 dates to three.

The Oils will be playing at The Big Red Bash near Birdsville on 18 July. The shows for the ‘Gong and Canberra are the only other Australian ones they will do this year.

The shows are definitely not farewell shows. Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst says we will probably see a new Oils album in 2020. “We’ve been talking about recording again for years but The Great Circle Tour in 2017 was such a positive experience that it made us even hungrier to get back to making new music together. It’s a bit early to know what might come out of it yet – we’re just looking forward to getting back into that creative mode.”

Special guests for the Wollongong show will be local experimental pop band Shining Bird, while acclaimed Darwin singer-songwriter Leah Flanagan will open proceedings in Canberra.

23 May, Wollongong, Anita’s Theatre Thirroul
27 May, Canberra, Royal Theatre, ACT
