Midweek Chart: One Direction Set To Top Australian Albums

by Gavin Ryan on November 27, 2013

in News

This week last year, One Direction were spending their second week at the top with their second album “Take Me Home”.

Almost two years ago their first album “Up All Night” (5-Dec-11) first entered the charts, eventually going to No.1 in April of 2012. So this week their third album “Midnight Memories” is set for a major entry at No.1.

With two versions of the album out, pre-orders starting back in early September, and their recent tour of the country, it all points to a 1D#1 week not just here but around the world, with last weekend being One Direction day, which was broadcast around the world via Google+ and YouTube. So I don’t think last weeks debut for Dami Im or strong holders for Eminem and Katy Perry are going to reclaim the top this coming week.

The compilation/fundraising album “Songs for the Philippines” could debut within the Top 10, along with a former summer staple, a Twelfth Man album; as his set “Willy Nilly – The 12th Man’s Greatest Hits” could debut within the ten, along with holds from Avicii, Lorde and potentially INXS’ “The Very Best of” could rise higher that previous (HP-13, TW-15).

The fourth album for LA rapper Hopsin could become his first entry here, as “Knock Madness” is currently Top 20, as too is the “iTunes Session” for Bernard Fanning, whilst we could see a Top 40 debut from Cold Chisel with “The Live Tapes Vol.1: Live at the Horden”, and a return for Kanye West with his former No.1 album “Yeezus”.

Bastille has re-packaged their debut album into the new title “All This Bad Blood”, featuring their current Top 10 single “Of the Night”, which could see the album enter the Top 50 this week, along with further Christmas entries in the form of Kelly Clarkson with “Wrapped in Red”, and Acapella group Pentatonix could see their festive set “PTXmas” enter the albums chart within the Top 70. Further entries could come from The Wiggles with “Hot Potatoes: The Very Best of”, Billie Joe (Green Day) and Norah (Jones) with their collaboration “Foreverly” and ambient muso Oliver Tank with “Slow Motion Music”.

Eminem and Rihanna look set for a third week at the top with “The Monster”, although Guy Sebastian’s appearance on the Dancing with the Stars finale could help his former No.4 single “Like a Drum” to jump up to a potential No.2 this week.

John Legend leapt to No.13 this past week, and now his piano ballad “All of Me” could leap into the Top 3, whilst also leaping should be Magic! with “Rude” into the Top 5, whilst they will be here for a promo tour from December 9th. Avicii’s “Hey Brother”, Pitbull & Ke$ha with “Timber”, One Direction’s “Story of My Life”, “Roar” for Katy Perry and “Of the Night” for Bastille should all retain their Top 10 status, with Katy possibly dropping hard after fifteen weeks within the Top 3.

Lily Allen debuted at No.33 this week with “Hard Out Here”, which could leap into the Top 15 this coming week, being joined by “Demons” (TW-21) by Imagine Dragons, whilst Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful” could fall hard out of the Top 10. Justin Bieber could land a Top 30 debut this week with his weekly tune, “Roller Coaster”, with Tina Arena bouncing back with “Only Lonely”. The collaboration between Flume and Chet Faker has produced the three track EP “Lockjaw”, with the first track “Drop the Game” currently Top 30, whilst INXS’ returned at No.54 with “Never Tear Us Apart” last week, and they could put the song back into the Top 40 this week.

Avicii has a new track charting entitled “Addicted to You”, featuring the great-great niece of Judy Garland, Audra Mae; the song potentially entering within the Top 40, whilst The Vamps could also jump into the forty with “Can We Dance” (TW-58). Kanye West’s new track “Bound 2” has received a lot of attention for it’s inclusion of his fiancée Kim Kardashian, plus the spoof by Seth Rogan and James Franco, which could all help the track to debut within the Top 50 this week, whilst we could also see a fifty entry for the new track by The Fray, “Love Don’t Die”.

At the moment there are two main singles charting for One Direction, “Best Song Ever” and “Story of My Life”, but with the release of their third album “Midnight Memories”, all of the album tracks are selling too, with seven further songs within the Top 100 at the moment, including last weeks No.2 digital selling song “Diana”, alongside “Strong”, “Midnight Memories”, “You & I”, “Happily”, “Don’t Forget Where You Belong”, and “Does He Know”. As to whether any of these other tracks will chart, we will have to wait until Saturday to find out.

Further new entries this week though could come from Flight Facilities featuring Micky Green and “Stand Still” which just missed out last week, AMA performers A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera and their track “Say Something”, and Pharrell Williams could debut with his track “Happy”, which is also featured in the film ‘Despicable Me 2’.
