Splendour In The Grass has been the driving force behind album sales in Australia this week.
Last weekends Splendour in the Grass could help a lot of albums to jump back up the charts this week, with acts such as James Blake (both albums), Jake Bugg, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean (who dropped out), Alt-J, Ms Mr and Haim, all seeing major rises for their albums.
So at the moment there is no clear leader for the No.1 album, although Imagine Dragons look set to improve on their new peak of No.14 from last week for “Night Visions” which could crack the Top 5 this week (or even higher) now that the album’s third single has zoomed into the Top 20 this week.
The new live album for The Rolling Stones “Hyde Park Live” could debut within the Top 20 and Tech N9ne and his new set “Something Else” could debut within the Top 30. With a heartfelt rendition of Ronan Keating’s “I Believe I Can Fly” performed on X-Factor, the album it came from “Songs for My Mother” could jump back into the Top 50 this week, whilst the new self-titled album for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes looks set for a Top 40 debut.
New lower entries could come from Kate Ceberano with “Kensal Road”, Owl City with “The Midsummer Station” and with Muse announcing their Nov/Dec tour here their current album “The 2nd Law” could jump up from its No.67 return position from last week. With the passing of guitar legend J.J. Cale this past week his “Very Best of” collection could enter the charts and AlunaGeorge could see their set “Body Music” also debut.
SINGLES:
Avicii held off One Direction for last weeks No.1, and the Swedish DJ looks set for a fifth straight week at No.1 in Australia with his smash “Wake Me Up” featuring Aloe Blacc.
Knocking on his door though is New Zealand’s Lorde with her EP “The Love Club” and it’s major FM smash “Royals” which could move up to No.2 this week, or even the top spot after her ‘Splendour in the Grass’ festival appearances. And she could become the second female artist to reach No.1 this year as Pink with “Just Give Me a Reason” (Feb-Mar) was the first. And with Lorde rising (pun intended) she could push OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” down, whilst another rising track is Karmin with “Acapella” which leapt into the Top 10 last week but could jump to the Top 5 this week along with Naughty Boy and “La La La”.
The remainder of the Top 10 could consist of Ellie Goulding with “Burn”, Vance Joy and “Riptide” Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” and a possible return for Imagine Dragons with “Radioactive”, whilst possibly debuting just outside the Top 10 could be X-Factor contestant Jai Waetford and his self-penned track “Don’t Let Me Go”.
Zedd and Foxes with “Clarity” look set for a Top 20 birth this week after reaching No.23 last week and after a small start at No.88 last week Imagine Dragons look set to blast up into the Top 20 with their new track “On Top of the World”, whilst 1D’s No.4 debut of “Best Song Ever” could be sitting in the lower twenty this coming week.
Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj with “Love More” could enter within the mid Top 30 this week and Bliss N’ Eso look set for their highest charting single EVER as “Act Yo Age” looks set for a Top 30 birth also, whilst Lorde’s higher chart success (and shows) seem to be pulling her “Tennis Court” up the charts to the lower thirty. Returning to the Top 100 could be David Guetta with Ne-Yo and Akon on “Play Hard”, a new remix out now by Albert Neve
AwolNation could blast into the lower top forty with their track “Sail”, whilst Ariana Grande could land her second chart entry here with “Baby I” and Jason DeRulo’s new track “Talk Dirty” featuring 2 Chainz could see them both debut in the 40 to 50 section of the chart this week.
Robin Thicke’s new single “Give it 2 U” came in at No.68 last week and could jump up to the lower Top 50 this week whilst Fatboy Slim’s new song “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” looks set for a Top 60 entry, and after falling out last week after peaking at No.63 Illy could be set for a Top 60 return with “On & On”. Further X-Factor performances could trigger re-entries for Jes Hudak with “Different Worlds”, Ronan Keating’s version of “I Believe I Can Fly”, Miley Cyrus with “The Climb”, Christina Perri with “A Thousand Years” Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire”, Matchbox 20 with “Unwell”, Mariah Carey’s “Hero” and judge RedFoo’s band LMFAO with “Sexy & I Know it”.
Further NEW entries in the lower half of the chart could come from Mike Posner with “The Way it Used to Be”, RUFUS with “Sundream”, Naked & Famous return with their new single “Hearts Like Ours” and party anthem “Whistle While I Work it” for Chester See, Wayne Brady (from ‘Whose Line is it’) and Toby Turner could also make an entry.
