Mike Kroeger Laughs Off ‘Drake is the Nickelback of Rap’ Comment

Mike Kroeger of Nickelback is amused and honoured at a recent comment made by caller to the BBC to tell Kevin Hart that “Drake was the Nickelback of rap”.

“That sounds about right and its kind of funny,” Mike Kroeger tells Noise11com. “I guess its cool to be a reference like that in some way. I am sure it’s not positive but its like Frank Sinatra said ‘the media can say whatever they want about you as long as they spell your name right’. I agree that any press is good press and I am happy to hear that kind of stuff. I hope Drake didn’t take it too hard.

Hart was equally unimpressed with the caller comment responding “This is the prime example of a person that just hates success. This is a person that hates to see people on top”.

Mike Kroeger couldn’t care less that what haters think. “The backlash is something that just something that comes with the territory,” he said. “It is something that comes with being a big story globally. People are going to take a shot at you when you stick your head up. No-one works for the haters, right? We are in it for the fans. That’s who we play for. We write the songs we write for the fans”.

Nickelback will bring their Feed The Machine tour to Australia in February for Live Nation but unlike the lyrics to their hit song ‘Rockstar’, Mike says they are all a fairly sedate bunch of guys.

“When we wrote that we were trying to come up with the most preposterous ideas of excess and extreme lifestyle. We had a really good time writing those lyrics. I don’t think necessarily were we thinking that was us. Some of those things have come to pass, but it is more than a parody than anything else,” he says.

Nickelback Australian dates

February 13, Brisbane, Entertainment Centre
February 15, Sydney, Qudos
February 16, Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena
