Mike Nesmith was back performing with The Monkees last week but he wasn’t in the room … he was on Skype.
Nesmith, one of the original Monkees, contributed to the band’s news album ‘Good Times’ but is not touring with the band.
However he did “log in” to the New York show last week to perform the 1966 classic ‘Papa Gene’s Blues’ on the screen, accompanied by the band on stage and the sing-a-long from the audience from the auditorium.
The Monkees ‘Good Times’ is the first Monkees album in 20 years. It features songwriting contributions from Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, XTC’s Andy Partridge, Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘Ben Gibbard, Neil Diamond, Carole King, Harry Nilsson and a collaboration by Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher.
The album is also their first album since the death of Davey Jones but Davey is included on the record as is the voice of the late Nilsson singing with Micky Dolenz on the title track ‘Good Times’.
The Monkees are currently on tour in the USA and could possibly even perform in Australia before the year is out.
‘Good Times’ is the highest charting album for the band since the ‘60’s in Australia. The album debuted at no 20 on the ARIA Album Chart this week.
