Seattle band Minus The Bear dropped in to see Daryl Hall for the latest edition of Live From Daryl’s House, Hall’s monthly online TV show.
Minus The Bear were Indie before the term was even being used. “They would call themselves an indie band, but I sort of see them as a successor to prog-rock,” says Daryl. “I’m a prog-rock guy from the ‘70s, when I worked with Robert Fripp. And these guys are in that vein … I really like them. Their music is intricate and hard to categorize, which is my favorite kind of music. We rocked out. I promise you, this is not friendly music.”
Jake Snider of Minus The Bear found the experience strange at first. “Going to Daryl’s house was surreal at first, but it quickly felt like hanging out and playing music with old friends,” he said.
The six-song set includes Hall’s solo song ‘NYCNY’, originally from his 1980 album ‘Scared Songs’ and ‘Get Out of the Way’ from the new album ‘Laughing Down Crying’.
Together they also play ‘Listing’ and ‘Steel and Blood’ from Minus The Bear’s ‘Infinity Overhead’ album and ‘Into The Mirror’ and ‘My Time’ from ‘Omni’.
Live From Daryl’s House is live now at lfdh.com and in the USA on cable channel Palladia from January 17.
