Rapper Missy Elliott has reportedly been hit with a lawsuit for allegedly failing to promote two concerts in Brazil, leading to poor ticket sales.
The Work It star was booked to play gigs in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre in November 2012 and reportedly agreed to promote the shows in a scheduled appearance on Brazilian TV network Rede Globo.
However, in legal documents obtained by TMZ, concert booker Jean Faustin claims Elliott failed to show up for the TV promos, which he alleges subsequently led to poor ticket sales. As a result, both concerts were cancelled.
In his lawsuit, Faustin says he paid Elliott a £46,875 deposit for the concerts, and he is seeking reimbursement for the advance, plus interest.
Elliott, 44, has had a busy 2015, playing the Essence Music Festival in Louisiana, US, Bestival on the Isle of Wight, UK, and the Pemberton Music Festival in British Colombia, Canada.
She also performed alongside Katy Perry at this year”s (15) Super Bowl.
“I thank Katy “cause she could have picked any artist. It was big for her. Most artists would be like, ‘Let me get somebody on the top of the charts just to make my joint just go even higher,”” Missy said at the time. “We did a record together, and I thought I was going to come out on the record we did. She said, ‘I want you to do your records.’ I’m like, ‘Wow.””
