Platinum Australian songstress Missy Higgins has unveiled a making-of video for her long-awaited third album The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle.
A couple of years ago, Higgins had decided to quit the music biz after heavy touring on her 2007 album On A Clear Night.
She says in a press release, “I guess I had a bit of an existential crisis – I thought, how do I become happy? If this doesn’t give me fulfilment, what will? And when you let go of something you’ve always attached to as your identity, what do you do? I’d always been the singer or the musician or the songwriter. And when I quit music, it was terrifying. Who am I without it? It was scary but it was also important to find out.”
But after some study, share-housing, and a normal life, she stepped back into a studio in Nashville, Tennessee and started work on her third album The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle with fellow transplanted Aussie Butterfly Boucher and Brad Jones on producing duties.
The new album will come out in June 1, and the first single will be titled ‘Unashamed Desire’, a version of which also appeared on Boucher’s recent self-titled album.
‘Unashamed Desire’ will be released on April 23 but you can hear a snippet in a Making-Of video she just posted on Vimeo which we’ve added below. And below that, there’s a recent chat with her producer Butterfly Boucher where she discusses trading the tune with Missy.
