Morrissey has covered a Lou Reed classic and EMI will release it.
On November 25, 2011, Morrissey performed the Lou Reed classic Satellite of Love during a show at the Chelsea Ballroom at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Britain’s Parlophone Records will release a digital version of the performance on December 2 to mark the passing of Reed and to coincide with the publishing of the singers book, Autobiography, in audio book form as read by British actor David Morrissey.
Reed originally released Satellite of Love on his 1972 solo classic Transformer. While it made few waves when released as a single in 1973, it has gone on to become one of Reed’s best known songs and made it to number 10 on the British Singles chart in 2004 in a new version by Reed called Satellite of Love ’04. U2 also recorded a version which was the b-side of their single One.
In other Morrissey news, his book is at number 1 on the British Best Sellers chart for a third week in a row. The book will be published in the U.S. on December 3.
