Morrissey Requests New Album Be Deleted

The back and forth between Morrissey and Harvest Records continues.

The word that Morrissey had been dropped by Harvest Records just weeks after the release of World Peace is None of Your Business was first reported on the fan site and the singer’s True-to-You.com. A Billboard article last week refuted that statement, saying that the singer remained under contract.

The next day, a new statement appeared on True-to-You that appeared to be from Harvest saying that Moz had actually been dropped which was followed by a lengthy diatribe by the singer on the situation.

Got all that?

Today, a new article in Billboard says a “source familiar with the situation” has told them that Morrissey has not been dropped by the label; however, they have followed the request of the singer and removed the new album from “all services.”

That means that World Peace is None of Your Business is no longer available from iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers and streaming services.

There is no indication that the album has been recalled from stores but it would be logical to think that no further copies will be sent out. World Peace has sold about 25,000 units in the U.S., including 15,000 CDs, 3,000 vinyl LPs and 8,000 digital downloads. Billboard estimates that there were about 50,000 physical copies of the album produced by Harvest so that would leave 32,000 units left on the shelves.
