Ex-Motor Ace members Patrick Robertson and Damian Costin have a new band they call Nighthawk.
Motor Ace had three albums between 2001 and 2005. The second one ‘Shoot This’ reached no 1 in Australia. The debut ‘Five Star Laundry’ peaked at no 4 and the third album ‘Animal’ in 2005 went to no 21.
Motor Ace also made the Top 40 singles on two occasions, with 2002’s ‘Carry On’ reaching no 13 on the ARIA chart and then ending the year at no 29 on the Triple J Hottest 100.
For Nighthawk, Patrick and Damo have recruited Flynn Wheeler and Rhys Thompson. “The fire that compelled me to make music in the first place was extinguished by the end of Motor Ace,” Patrick said in a statement. “I was young and took every kink in the road harder than I should have. I do have some regrets about not enjoying the great music we made and our success a little more.”
“Nighthawk comes from a very different place. It was a party before it was a band. There’s a simplicity about the music and the attitude. I haven’t felt as excited about a group of musicians and making music for a very long time. I think you can hear it.”
There’s a Nighthawk album in the way. The first single is ‘Surely Getting On’.
