The Mumford & Sons album ‘Babel’ has created a new record we have never discussed before. It is officially the most streamed album in one week.
According to figures from Spotify, ‘Babel’ was streamed over 8 million times in the USA in the past seven days making it the most streamed album ever in the first week of it being on sale.
At 8 million streams, ‘Babel’ has done three times more streams than Spotify’s previous most streamed title.
Also according to Spotify, one in 10 Spotify users listened to a track from Mumford & Sons ‘Babel’ last week.
It is no wonder. Mumford & Sons ‘Babel’ is officially the fastest selling album of 2012 in the USA.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, Mumford & Sons ‘Babel’ sold 600,000 copies his week making it the biggest debut album of the year and biggest debut album since Drake’s ‘Take Care’ in November, 2011 with 630,000 units sold in week one.
Of the 600,000 units sold, 420,000 (or 70%) were digital, making it the biggest digital debut since Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ in May, 2011. Gaga sold 662,000 in its first week.
