‘Murphy Brown’, the hit comedy starring Candice Bergen that aired for 10 seasons from 1988 to 1998, is returning for 13 more episodes.

The 11th season of ‘Murphy Brown’ is expected to begin for the new television season starting in September.

‘Murphy Brown’ ruled the airwaves during its 10 year run. It won 18 Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes.

The show starred Candice Bergen as Murphy Brown, a recovering alcoholic who hosts a fictional news show. Bergen was 41 when she started with the show. She is now 71.

Robert Pastorelli who starred as Murphy’s home handyman Eldin died in 2004, Pat Corley who played Phil the bar owner died in 2006 Joe Hostetter who was stage manager John died in 2016 and Jay Thomas who played Murphy’s nemesis and later her lover Jerry Gold, died in 2017.

People who potentially could return with Bergen are Faith Ford who played Corky Sherwood-Forest, Grant Shaud who played Miles Silverberg, Joe Regalbuto who played Frank Fontana and Charles Kimbrough who played Jim Dial. Kimbrough is now 81 years of age. These days he does the voice-over character Victor for the computer game Kingdom Hearts.

The new show will be written by the original creator Diane English.

Murphy Brown will be the latest in a series of TV reboots. Will & Grace recently had a successful run, The X-Files is having a struggle in its latest season and the world awaits the return of Roseanne on March 27.
