Adele has clocked up around 250,000 sales in Australia for her ‘25’ album making it the fastest selling album of 2016 by far.
The momentum of the Adele ‘25’ albums has not been seen in years. ‘25’ has been selling like how hit records used to sell a decade ago.
The ‘25’ album has been declared 6x Platinum by ARIA which represents sales over 420,000 (as Platinum is declared for 70000 sales in Australia). As ARIA awards Gold and Platinum based on sales from label to stores, not stores to customers, then around 200,000 Adele sales have been ordered in as a lead-up to Christmas. Volumes at that level could be realistic for K-Mart, Target and JB Hi-Fi chains putting Adele on track to have the biggest selling album of 2016.
The end of year chart will represent sales from stores to customers, so on the current figure Adele is in no 2 spot to Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’. Swift was also recently awarded 6x Platinum but took one year to reach the milestone Adele took three weeks to achieve.
