Adele’s comeback is off to a flying start with the video for new single Hello breaking the record for the most views in a 24 hour period.
On Friday (23Oct15), Adele made her return to music after a three year absence from the industry with the highly emotive ballad.
Alongside the track, Adele starred in a six minute video directed by Xavier Dolan.
As the singer’s loyal fans flocked to watch the footage, it proceeded to break Vevo’s record for the most views in any 24 hour span – with a staggering 27 million people watching it.
The short film quickly went viral and featured in thousands of memes created by fans.
At last count on Monday (26Oct15), the video had more than 73 million views since it hit the Internet.
The incredible figure means Adele has overtaken Taylor Swift, who previously held the record with her star studded video for Bad Blood.
Hello looks to be one of Adele’s most successful releases to date.
It is already on track to take the record for the fastest selling single of the year, shifting 165,000 copies in sales and streams, as well as a further 156,000 downloads.
According to the Official Charts Company, the star is hot on the tail of Ellie Goulding, who currently holds that title with her single Love Me Like You Do.
As Adele continues to take the world by storm with her new single, it was announced on Monday (26Oct15) that the mother of one will be making a return to Saturday Night Live as its musical guest on 21 November (15).
The last time she appeared on the programme was back in 2008.
This year, however, will see the singer appear alongside celebrity host Matthew McConaughey when the show airs next month.
Adele’s appearance on the programme will come one day after the release of her new album 25, which hits shelves on 20 November (15).
