Queensland musicians have been awarded a one-week extension to submit their application for Arts Queensland’s annual Billy Thorpe Scholarship.
Funded by Arts Queensland, the $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to an emerging Queensland-based contemporary musician or band and aims to:
1. Identify a talented, emerging, Queensland based musician or band who can demonstrate their commitment to a career in music and who will best benefit from the scholarship
2. Enable the recipient/s to make significant progress creatively and in their music career by providing them with opportunities, tools and networks
The scholarship comprises $4,000 in cash and $6,000 towards a recording with an established producer in addition to a meeting with a Chugg Entertainment representative.
Applicants are required to apply online through QMusic’s website.
Entries for the 2016 Billy Thorpe Scholarship close Sunday 6 December 2015.
The winner will be announced at the 2016 Queensland Music Awards ceremony to be held at Brisbane Powerhouse on March 21st, 2016.
About the Scholarship:
The scholarship, named in honour of the late Billy Thorpe, a great Australian rock musician who passed away in February 2007, was designed to help develop the future of rock and roll. Billy Thorpe spent his formative years in Brisbane and made an enormous contribution to the Australian and global music industry over five decades of performing, writing and producing.
