Celine Dion will honor her husband at a tribute event in Las Vegas, according to reports.
The singer had been performing her residency at The Colosseum inside Caesars Palace before the tragic passing of Rene Angelil, her spouse of 21 years, last month.
While her shows are not scheduled to return until February 23, Celine will apparently return to the venue on Wednesday night for an event to honor her late husband’s life.
According to E! News, Celine is not expected to speak or perform at the event, but will watch as specially invited guests and fans share their memories of Rene with speeches and videos.
The news comes after Celine released a statement thanking her fans for their support, after Rene’s funeral at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica was broadcast nationally.
In a message published in French on her website, Celine wrote: “We thank from the bottom of our heart all the people who have expressed their love for Rene during these trying times. Your testimony and your support helped us, more than you can imagine to take this step and say our farewells.
“Thank you also to the Government of Quebec for holding a national funeral, as well as to the many individuals and organisations who worked to provide a final tribute to the height of the man he was.”
The statement was concluded with Celine’s name, as well as her sons with Rene – 15-year-old Rene-Charles and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson, and his three children from previous relationships.
Rene lost his battle with cancer in Henderson, Nevada, just two days ahead of his 74th birthday. Celine has had to cope with an incredibly difficult few months, as her brother Daniel – one of her 13 siblings – also lost his battle with cancer on January 16, just two days after her husband’s death.
