Singer Celine Dion will reportedly return to the Las Vegas stage on Saturday (23Jan16), just one day after the funeral of her husband Rene Angelil.

Dion was left devastated when her lifelong partner lost his battle with cancer on Thursday (14Jan16), at the age of 73, and immediately cancelled her weekend shows at Caesars Palace, but on Wednesday (20Oct16) it was reported the star will resume performing on Saturday (23Jan16) after saying goodbye to her former manager in Montreal, Canada.

“That’s what Rene would want,” a source told People magazine. “He wants her to perform and come back. He knew her better than anybody and he probably knows that’s what she needs too, to perform.”

It was previously revealed that Rene, who managed Celine career right up until his death, had planned every detail of his funeral, which will take place on Friday (22Jan16) at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Canada, where he married Celine in 1994. Despite reports to the contrary, Celine will not perform at the memorial.

Fans have been invited to pay their respects to Rene, who would have turned 74 on Saturday (16Jan16), during A Chapel of Rest event at the Basilica on the eve of the funeral (21Jan16).

His obituary, published following his death, read: “According to his final wishes, his funeral will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where 21 years ago, he chose to marry the one who will remain as the great love of his life, the artist for which he had the most respect, the woman who gave him light and happiness until his very last breath.”

Rene battled cancer for many years, forcing his wife to cancel a run of shows to be by his side. She returned to the stage in Sin City in August (15), but she was still dedicated to caring for her spouse.

“She didn’t travel anywhere,” added the source. “She wanted to be with him 24/7 in case anything happened.”

The singer has also had to deal with the loss of her brother Daniel, who also passed away from cancer just two days after Rene. He will also be laid to rest in Montreal.
