Coldplay debuted another new song this week, this time featuring special guest Beyoncé.
‘Hymn For The Weekend’ is from the new Coldplay album ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ due for release this Friday December 4, 2015.
Guy Berryman told the BBC that the song started out totally different. “We had a song idea,” he said. “It ended up becoming quite a different vibe, this song. The words were “drinks on me, drinks on me.” We said to him ‘you can’t say that. You can’t get away with that’. So the story of the song changed”.
Martin then got Beyoncé involved. “Chris asked Beyoncé to sing on it and she very kindly said she would. She came in, she did her thing, she’s unbelievably professional,” he said. “I think she was in and out in five minutes.”
‘A Head Full of Dreams’ comes just 18 months after Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories’ album, released in May 2014. ‘Ghost Stories’ had first week sales of 34,097. While no-one expects the Coldplay album to ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ will need to sell 41,000 or more to become the second fastest selling album of the year in Australia ahead of Justin Bieber or 35,000 to take third spot from One Direction. Anything above 20,000 will make ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ the third fastest selling album of 2015 in Australia.
