There is something humorous about the dinginess of Melbourne’s northern suburb Preston being sung about on a stage in the California desert.
Courtney Barnett says the good people of Coachella a geography lesson about the Melbourne suburb when she performed the first of her Coachella shows on the weekend.
It was a short set, just 10 songs and it was all over, but in her anointed time Courtney showcased ‘Sometimes I Set and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit’ the one and only Australian album to make any real impact internationally in 2015.
Courtney Barnett is not fashionable, she is just plain real. You won’t hear her on pop stations, you won’t see her in celebrity magazines, you won’t find Courtney Barnett in threading nightclubs waiting for a photo op. Courtney is just Courtney. When you have never been fashionable, you can never be unfashionable which is why once all the Sia’s, Iggy’s and Jessica’s have gone we will still have Courtney Barnett.
