Eagles of Death Metal, the band who was playing at Le Betaclan when the terrorist attack started, have suspended their tour, in effect cancelling all further dates.
The band was able to get out of the theater safely, but their merchandising manager, Nick Alexander, was killed in the attack.
A spokesperson for the band announced on Monday that the group would be suspending their tour immediately, adding that they would have a statement on the attacks in the near future.
Meanwhile, a group of Eagles of Death Metal fans in the U.K. are pushing to get the band’s cover of Duran Duran’s Save a Prayer to the number 1 on the British singles chart. The group Eagles of Death Metal For No. 1 say that the song is “…the perfect tune for us all right now. Spend a quid to show your solidarity not only with the band, but to show your support for those in Paris.”
The campaign has been embraced by many in the music business, sending the song to number 1 on the Amazon Rock chart and number 4 on Amazon overall in the U.K. The band’s version of the song is from their latest album, Zipper Down, which was released on October 2.
Later in the day, Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran posted on Twitter “@EODMforNo1 @DuranDuran will donate all proceeds due to us, from this version. Considering options that are useful, peaceful & uniting.”
