Greg Kihn was admitted to the hospital last night around midnight and will have gall bladder surgery removal surgery as soon as it is “medically feasible”.
The rocker and radio veteran was scheduled to play Blackhawk Plaza in Danville, CA on Friday and The Mystic Theatre in Petaluma, CA on Saturday; however, both shows have been cancelled. Kihn is hoping to set a new date for the Petaluma show at some point in the future.
No further details on his condition have been released. Press reps promise “We will keep Greg Kihn’s friends and fans updated on his condition and recovery.”
Kihn has had a long musical career which started in 1973 when he was one of the first artists signed to Berserkley Records. He released his debut album in 1976 which set him on a course of eleven albums in eleven years.
Greg’s career fully took off in the early 80’s with the hits The Breakup Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em) (1981 / #15 Pop / #5 Mainstream Rock), Testify (1982 / #5 Mainstream Rock) and Jeopardy (1983 / #2 Pop / #5 Mainstream Rock).
In the mid-90’s, Kihn released two acoustic albums before finding his second home in radio. He started at night but was soon the morning show host at KFOX in San Jose, CA where he stayed until 2012, becoming a member of the California Broadcasting Hall of Fame shortly after leaving the station. He has also published a number of fiction books.
