Lady Gaga and Hailee Steinfeld are among the celebrities who have taken to social media to share their thoughts about a suspected “domestic terrorism” attack on a neighbourhood social services facility in San Bernardino, California.
Police responded to calls of a deadly mass shooting in the area and spent hours working with a local SWAT team attempting to apprehend three men they suspected of killing 15 people. Reports also suggest 17 people were injured in the attack, and many of them have been taken to a nearby hospital.
Lady Gaga was among the people watching the news unfold on TV and she took to Twitter.com warning media outlets to be careful with their coverage.
“Thinking of the world today, praying the media doesn’t reward killers with notoriety,” she wrote. “Inspire peace. Use your power for harmony, not ratings.”
Actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld also spoke out, tweeting, “My heart aches. You have my love San Bernadino.”
Rashida Jones, Zoe Kazan, Jaime King, Chrissy Teigen, Christina Applegate, Brie Larson and Gloria Estefan were also among the stars who offered their thought and prayers to locals and officials caught up in the drama, while California native and Blink-182 star Travis Barker wrote, “Prayers going out to #SanBernadino right now, so sad.”
And actress Amy Schumer, who has been at the forefront of America’s gun control debate in recent months, also took to Twitter and wrote, “This is absolutely heartbreaking – all my love to everyone in San Bernardino especially the first responders. These shootings must stop.”
The actress/comedienne joined her cousin, Senator Charles Schumer’s gun campaign this past summer (15), after a shooting incident at a screening of her comedy Trainwreck in Lafayette, Louisiana in July.
As WENN went to press, reports suggest two of the gunmen have been shot but a third suspect is still at large.
