Lana Del Rey: ‘I would have totally recorded the Spectre Bond theme’.
Lana Del Rey would have jumped at the opportunity to record the theme for new Bond movie Spectre, but reveals she was never asked.
The moody Summertime Sadness singer’s name was mentioned among the early frontrunners to write and record the latest Bond film theme, but the job eventually went to Sam Smith, who came up with Writing’s on the Wall.
“I would’ve done it if I was asked but I wasn’t asked,” Lana tells NME.com. “I love all of the Bond music that’s been put out over the years and I love soundtracks in general.
“There are a couple of songs on this record (new album Honeymoon) that have a Bond feel, like 24 and Swan Song.”
Despite being overlooked for the Spectre theme song, Lana is receiving the spotlight in many other forums and she is to be honoured for her originality at the 2015 Billboard Women in Music Awards.
The Video Games singer will be presented with the Trailblazer award at the New York ceremony on 11 December (15) in recognition of the “inspiring and interesting path” her career has taken.
“Lana Del Rey has done things her way from the moment she first burst on the scene (sic), and continues to make brave and bold choices that defy convention,” awards show boss Janice Min said. “She’s a trailblazer from her music to her mystery to her multitude of other interests. She keeps everyone awaiting her next move.”
Lady Gaga is set to receive the Woman of the Year prize while Selena Gomez will be honoured with the Chart Topper gong, Demi Lovato will be named Rulebreaker, and Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes will take home the Powerhouse award.
Hayley Williams, who fronts pop rock group Paramore, was named Trailblazer last year (14).
