Lemmy Farewell To Be Held At The Rainbow

The Rainbow Bar and Grill on West Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood will be the location for a memorial this Sunday for the late Lemmy Kilmister.

Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister died on December 28, 2015.

The Rainbow was one of Lemmy’s favorite spots and family and friends felt that it would be the appropriate place to send the rock great off, but demand for tickets has been very heavy.

The original announcement was made on Saturday saying that the club would open at 2 PM but be closed from 5 until 9 for a private service. Initially, arrangements were made to use the Roxy and Whiskey a Go-Go for overflow.

Join us Saturday, January 9th as we say goodbye to a dear friend and loved one. We will open our doors at 2pm. The memorial will be 21 and over only. ATTN!!! Due to the overwhelming and supportive response to Lemmy’s memorial we are now using the entire Strip to compensate for overflow. The Rainbow will close from 5:00 until 9:00 for a private service however the Roxy and Whisky will remain open to accommodate those looking to show their respects during this time.

Late Monday afternoon, the Rainbow posted a new announcement implying that possibly more clubs would be joining in handling the extra people who attend; however, the Roxy and Whiskey are the only two specifically mentioned.

Thank you.

The Rainbow Bar and Grill was opened in 1972 by a group that included Lou Adler and opened on April 16 with a party for Elton John. Among the regulars at the location were John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, Alice Cooper, Harry Nilsson, Grace Slick, Robert Plant and many others. It currently has a restaurant on the bottom level and the exclusive “Over the Rainbow” club on the upper floor.
