Grammy-winning singer Miguel will reportedly make his movie debut in a role for Ben Affleck’s forthcoming film Live by Night.
Live by Night is a Prohibition era crime drama based on Dennis Lehane’s eponymous period novel, which was published in 2012.
According to Deadline, Miguel has signed on to portray a character named Esteban, who is the brother of Zoe Saldana’s persona Graciella Suarez. Live by Night centres on the depraved exploits of Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the rogue son of a police captain who becomes a notorious gangster. Graciella is a woman Ben’s character Joe meets when he starts doing crime in Tampa, Florida.
Ben signed on to direct, star in and write the film for Warner Bros and he is producing the project under his Pearl Street banner with Jennifer Todd. Fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way Productions colleague Jennifer Davisson Killoran are also taking producing credit for the picture.
The ensemble for Live by Night is outstanding so far as new addition Miguel is also joining Elle Fanning, Chris Cooper and Sienna Miller on the cast.
This will be hitmaker Miguel’s first acting role credit in a major motion picture.
Ben has been involved in pre-production for Live by Night since 2013 and the film just started shooting on location in Georgia last week (ends30Oct15).
He was so excited about principal photography taking place, Ben shared a picture from the set with fans via Twitter on 28 October (15).
“First day. First shot. #livebynightmovie,” he captioned the image of himself and a boy walking on a wooden sidewalk in the middle of a marsh.
Ben previously adapted Dennis Lehane’s Gone Baby Gone for his 2007 directorial debut of the same name.
Live by Night is scheduled to be released in theatres during 2017.
