Prince has gone 1, 2 in the U.S. on the Albums chart in an amazing surge of sales after his death.

The singer’s death was announced on Thursday morning and the sales week finished at midnight that night yet, in just a few short hours, enough of his albums sold to put him at number 1 with The Very Best of Prince and 2 with Purple Rain.

Also charting this week:
06. The Hits/The B-Sides
31. 1999
61. Ultimate Prince
95. Sign O’ the Times
147. HITNRUN Phase 1
160. Prince
Expect to see many more Prince albums on next week’s chart after a full sales week is complete.

Santana debuts at 5 with Santana IV, their first album with the original band since 1971. Their first album, Santana, went to number 4 while their other two, Abraxas and Santana III were number 1 sets.

Ace Frehley is in at 23 with Origins, Vol. 1. That’s a bit of a drop from his last album, 2014’s Space Invaders, which went to number 9.

At 63 is the debut of P.J. Harvey’s The Hope Six Demolition Project which is, like Frehley, a drop from her last project, Let England Shake (2011 / #32).

Metallica’s two deluxe reissues of Ride the Lightning and Kill ‘Em All both made the top 100 at 48 and 66 respectively.

Graham Nash starts at 93 with This Path Tonight, his best charting in the U.S. since 1974’s Wild Tales (#34). He has only released three solo albums since but two only charted below 100 and the other did not make the Top 200.

At 122 is They Might Be Giants and their 19th studio album Phone Power. The prolific group has been all over the charts for years; however their last “adult” album, Glean made it to 67 last year.

Finally, at 189, is the latest from Marie Osmond, Music is the Medicine.
