Scott Weiland, former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has said to look for a reunion of the original Guns N’ Roses lineup and a possible breakup of his original band.
Maybe the best information comes from someone on the outside of the “inner circle” or maybe it’s just speculation.
Weiland was in GNR guitarist Slash’s band, Velvet Underground, so there is a good chance that he has some inside scoop on where the band is going. An in-depth interview with Brett Buchanan in Alternative Nation will be published Monday but, in a preview, Buchanan has revealed that Weiland believes that Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler are planning to get back together. When pushed as to his source, he simply said “I just heard that.”
He also says that Chester Bennington has left Stone Temple Pilots and that the future of the band is in serious question. The band, which Weiland co-founded in 1985, fired the singer in 2013 (there may be new revelations on that in the full Alternative Nation interview) and hired Bennington, a member of Linkin Park.
Weiland said of Bennington’s departure “He’s not in the band anymore. I heard he’s not in the band anymore. He’s got a band where he gets paid $700,000 a night with, and with STP, the brand is kind of falling apart, which is a shame.”
