Selena Gomez is reportedly reticent about her rekindled romance with Justin Bieber as she’s petrified he’ll hurt her.
The pair dated between December 2010 and January 2013, and since then their romance has been on/off. They were thought to have moved on from each other completely, but in November (15) Justin serenaded his ex-girlfriend during an evening out in Beverly Hills which is thought to have acted as a catalyst for them getting back together.
However, it’s thought Selena, 23, remains concerned about whether her 21-year-old love is really ready to commit.
“Selena is still in love with Justin, but as exciting as it is for them to be back together, she’s terrified to trust her heart again because he’s hurt her so many times,” an insider told Britain’s Heat magazine.
One of the main bones of contention is said to be how serious the young love birds are, with Selena apparently ready to commit to Justin properly.
“Justin has this belief that Selena’s cool with him hooking up with other women and that they don’t need to be exclusive,” the source said. “She may say it’s OK, but in reality it tears her apart to know he’s seeing other girls.”
There have been signs that the pair could be on the road to reconciliation for a while now, as Justin has repeatedly spoken about the former Disney star in interviews while promoting his new album Purpose. He even admitted she was the inspiration for several of the record’s tracks, although he stopped short of saying he sees their future together.
“It was really tough,” he told Access Hollywood of their split. “I don’t know if I’m over it yet. I think that I’m definitely in another place and I think we’ve definitely went our separate ways. I love her and I want her to be awesome, but there are things that remind me of her.
“I don’t know what is going to happen in the future. I think we both gotta do some soul searching ourselves and figure out ourselves before we can just try to figure out each other.”
