Singer songwriter Tim Wheatley is giving fans an impression of Los Angeles from when he first moved there away from his hometown Melbourne.
When I moved to Los Angeles, I found myself getting a little to swept up in the night life,” he explains. “It’s a song about a few people I met around the same old haunts and some of the unsavoury things they would get up to…. I’m excited to be releasing this one as it’s probably the best indication of the direction I am heading in musically.”
‘The Heathen’ was recorded in Melbourne by Paul McKercher and mixed at Capitol Records, Hollywood by Niko Bolas. “While Niko and I were mixing it, we thought it could use just a little something else, and so Niko suggested we take it to legendary guitarist Waddy Wachtel who has played with Keith Richards, Tom Waits, John Mayer, Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks just to name a few. Waddy just played along and gave the song a dynamic that builds and builds,” Tim said. “Having him play on my album was a surreal experience. Waddy would ask for my input, and I would just sit there… mute!”
The video for The Heathen was shot in LA by Peter A. Holland and directed by Martin Copping. It stars Helena Vestergaard and Ryan Porter who play Tim’s unholy companions as they trawl the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles. “We walked around Hollywood attempting to recreate a similar haphazard vibe reminiscent of the song,” explains Tim.
