Happy 100th birthday to Chevrolet. The Chevrolet Motor Car Company was founded on November 3, 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a Swizz guy born to French parents. At 22 Louis emigrated to Canada and in 1901 moved to New York City.
The car’s bow-tie logo is based on the Swiss cross, a nod to Chevrolet’s heritage.
Louis sold his shares in the company and in 1917 the company was sold to General Motors.
The Chevy has also been an inspiration for many a classic song. Here is a list of some songs that feature a Chevy. Start up a discussion and name our favourite Chevy song below:
Don McLean – America Pie
“So bye-bye, Miss American Pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Bob Seger – Night Moves
“Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my ’60 Chevy
Elton John – Crocodile Rock
“I remember when rock was young
Me and Suzie had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own”
Taylor Swift – Tim McGraw
“Just a boy in a Chevy truck,
That had a tendency of gettin’ stuck,
On backroads at night
An’ I was right there beside him all summer long”
Snoop Dogg – Ridin’ In My Chevy
“When I’m ridin’ in my Chevy and I’m sittin’ at the light, at the light
I got cush in my blood, sippin’ Remy
Keep it pimpin’ with my pinky off the curtain
All the people when they see me like, Snoop turn it up”
Beastie Boys – So What Cha Want
“You scream and you holler about my Chevy Impala
But the sweat is getting wet around the ring
Around your collar”
Motley Crue – Dr. Feelgood
“Got a ’65 Chevy, primered flames
Traded for some powdered goods
Jigsaw Jimmy he’s the one in the game
But I hear he’s doin’ OK”
Eric Clapton – Rock and Roll Heart
“I get off on ’57 Chevys;
I get off on screaming guitar.
Like the way it gets me every time it hits me.
I’ve got a rock and roll, I’ve got a rock n’ roll heart.”
