Neil Diamond will once again mine his archives for the first release under his new agreement with Capitol Records.
All-Time Greatest Hits unites his biggest hits from his years with Bang, UNI/MCA and Columbia for an all inclusive package.
Along with the many hits, the package also contains the original solo version of You Don’t Give Me Flowers. Unfortunately, the package is most certainly not a true “greatest hits” as 11 of Diamond’s 25 top twenty U.S. hits are omitted, including two top tens. Missing from this album are:
I Got a Feeling (1966 / #16)
You Got to Me (1967 / #18)
Thank the Lord For the Nighttime (1967 / #13)
He Ain’t Heavy…He’s My Brother (1970 / #20)
Stones (1971 / #14)
Walk on Water (1972 / #17)
Longfellow Serenade (1974 / #5)
If You Know What I Mean (1976 / #11)
Desiree (1978 / #16)
Yesterday’s Songs (1981 / #11)
Heartlight (1982 / #5)
Instead, there are seven non-top twenty singles and two that did not chart. While some of these did go on to classic status via oldies radio, it is a shame that songs like Longfellow Serenade, Stones, If You Know What I Mean and Yesterday’s Songs were left off the package.
Diamond’s last all encompassing hits package was 2011’s The Very Best of Neil Diamond which went to 45 in the U.S. and 5 in the U.K.
