Neil Diamond is taking the city that adopted his Sweet Caroline to heart as he has announced that he will donate the royalties from the song to the cities One Fund. The charity support the victims of the recent bombings in Boston.
Diamond’s hit has been played at every Boston Red Sox game for over ten years and was added to the between innings music at a number of ballparks around the country last week in support to the city. Last Saturday, Neil surprised the crowd (and the Red Sox) when he showed up unannounced to sing the song live during the seventh inning stretch.
That appearance and the other news stories surrounding the bombings have sent the song back onto the charts with sales last week jumping 597% to almost 19,000 downloads. That was enough to send the song onto the Pop Digital Songs chart at number 33.
