There are thousands of stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and there are a lot of fairly obvious omissions. Let’s face it, Paul McCartney only got his star six months ago.
The actual process for choosing those who get stars is a little unclear. Nominations are submitted followed by a committee who picks candidates followed by the approval of the Chamber of Commerce; however, over the years, there has been a persistent rumor that the criteria also includes a donation of some sort to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Still, a star on the Walk of Fame is considered an honor.
It’s that predetermined list that makes the current rumor that Neil Diamond is supposed to get a star a bit of a surprise, yet it appears that it may be about to happen. According to Steve Marinucci at Examiner.com and the site SweetCaroline.com, Diamond has been approved for a star for awhile but the actual ceremony had not been scheduled.
That is, until now. Last week, Ana Martinez, the “Queen of the Walk of Fame” and the Producer and VP of Media Relations for the Walk, tweeted: “Far… We’ve been travelling far… Without a home… But not without a star He’s coming to the Walk of Fame!!”
Diamond will be performing five times at the Greek Theater on August 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25 as part of the 40th anniversary of his classic Hot August Night album. Best bets are that the ceremony will happen sometime during that run of dates.
