Neil Young will release a 1970 Washington concert as part of his ongoing archives series.
‘Live At The Cellar Door’ documents Young’s six-night stand at the small Washington D.C. venue between November 30 and December 2, 1970. The venue would later inspire Young’s ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’ with the line ‘I hear you knocking on the Cellar Door’.
The concerts were done just months after Young released his third solo album ‘After The Gold Rush’. This album features a rare solo version of ‘Cinnamon Girl’ performed on piano instead of guitar. The song originally appeared on Young’s second album ‘Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere’ with Crazy Horse.
Young performed a number of Buffalo Springfield songs at the shows including ‘Expecting To Fly’, ‘I Am A Child’ and ‘Flying On The Ground’. He also performed ‘Bad Fog Of Loneliness’, a song that didn’t appear on any albums until the ‘Live At Massey Hall’ archive set in 2007. A studio version was also included on the Archive box set.
‘Live At The Cellar Door’ will be released digitally, on CD and vinyl. The album will be released in December.
