Neil Young’s new album, Hitchhiker, is actually not new at all. It was recorded back in 1976 but never released with many of the songs going on to appear on later Young albums.
One of those was “Powderfinger” which ended up on the electric side of his live album Rust Never Sleeps in a rockier performance.
“Powderfinger”‘s reputation has grown over the years with Rolling Stone, in 2014, calling it Young’s best song.
We now have the mellower, original version of the song courtesy of Hitchhiker.
