Neil Young and Jack White are said to be in the studio together working on a secret project, believed to be a covers album.
The internet is abuzz today with the possibility that Neil Young has recorded an album of covers with Jack White.
For his Farm Aid set last year, Young played a set heavy with other people’s songs. Now, Michael Goldberg has stated on his site Days of the Crazy Wild that Young has been in the studio recording an all covers album with guitarist/producer Jack White.
The possibility of was first floated last month on the Young fan site Thrasher’s Wheat which said “It is an album of covers. In it, as anticipated, he pays tribute to other renowned singer-songwriters. There are 12 tracks on it. There are no Neil Young originals…”
What is on the album is still unknown; however, songs performed in recent shows may give some indication. His Farm Aid set list:
Blowin’ in the Wind (Bob Dylan cover)
Early Morning Rain (Gordon Lightfoot cover)
Old Man (from Harvest, 1972)
Heart of Gold (from Harvest, 1972)
Since I Met You Baby (Ivory Joe Hunter cover)
Reason to Believe (Tim Hardin cover)
Changes (Phil Ochs cover)
Since the first of the year, he has performed Changes and the Bert Jansch song Needle of Death at all five of his shows.
