New York’s iconic music store Bleecker Bob’s Records will close in May.
As of June 1, the location is at 118 West 3rd St., New York will become a yogurt shop.
Robert ‘Bob’ Plotnik opened his Greenwich Village record store in 1968. It is the longest continuous running record store in New York City.
The who’s who of music shopped at Bleecker Bob’s. Robert Plant, David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Mick Jagger are just some of the names Bob counts as customers of her business.
Bleecker Bob’s Records is known for carrying the deepest collection of rock, punk and alternative music in New York but one of the issues with the business today was price. Rent at the location is high and customers are scarce. Prices at the store are consistently higher than most other places, especially online, and that creates a further complication of turning customers away.
The store had an incredible 45-year run but that run is coming to an end.
