Noise11 COO Nick Kontonicolas says he discovered Leonid & Friends while doing business with the Ukraine.
After introducing the Moscow based big band through an article on Noise11.com this week, the story gained traction with radio, retail and media.
Mr. Kontonicolas is passionate about discovery in unusual places. In a statement he said, “It is rewarding discovering great artists in different countries like Leonid & Friends who I know the rest of the world will identify with. Music bypasses language and cultural differences. If the music is great it can be easily interchanged from Moscow to Manhattan or Melbourne”.
Leonid & Friends is the Moscow based big band covering the music of Chicago and occasionally Earth, Wind & Fire. The production that goes into their recordings and sound from their live performance rivals the best of the best from London, Manhattan and Hollywood.
“It is incredible coming across a sound in Russia that you would normally attribute to the USA,” Mr. Kontonicolas stated. “We live in a global village today but the music business is still territorial. That presents a tremendous opportunity in the Noise11 business to introduce artists from seemingly different cultures to a global stage”.
Nick Kontonicolas is generally associated with the finance world specialising in resources but he has been involved in music companies prior to Noise11. “My music business philosophy is no different to my philosophy is running other businesses, whether that be oil, gas or finance. At the very base of any great business is a great vision. What attracted me to Noise11 was its global vision. Discovering Leonid & Friends out of Moscow is just one example of where we are heading. Our next major project in China is developing a music platform for export and trade. That is my current focus”.
More details on the Noise11 China music initiative will be released out of New York in the next week.
