When Nick Menza, former drummer for Megadeth, collapsed and died on stage this past Saturday, some people started speculating that it had to be drug related as Menza was only 51.
The results of his autopsy were leaked yesterday to TMZ by “law enforcement sources” who said that it was, indeed, a heart attack. They also said that Menza had not used drugs at anytime in the recent past and that those close to the drummer confirmed he had been sober for eight years.
Menza played with Megadeth from 1989 to 1998, playing on their albums Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings. He was let go from the group after suffering a benign tumor on his knee.
After Megadeth, he recorded his solo album Life After Death and the groups Orphaned to Hatred and OHM.
Dave Mustaine has said that he will be organizing a benefit show in the near future, bringing back together musicians from throughout Megadeth’s history, to help Nick’s family.
