Nicki Minaj never meant to start a feud with Taylor Swift.
The pair’s Twitter exchange began when Nicki accused MTV of deliberately missing her out of the Video of the Year category when the nominations for the upcoming Video Music Awards were announced on Tuesday.
When Nicki tweeted MTV saying she had been left out of the segment for her video Anaconda because she wasn’t the right ‘kind’ of girl, Taylor, whose video Bad Blood did feature in the category, took offense and accused her peer of ‘pitting women against each other’.
However, despite Nicki insisting she had never meant to slam Taylor, she once again took to Instagram on Wednesday in an attempt to have the last word on the matter.
Praising the outlets that had reported the story in a way she approved of, Nicki wrote: ‘The list goes on of news/media outlets who used their voice to help me make a very obvious point. Thank you so much.
‘Nothing to do with any of the women, but everything to do with a system that doesn’t credit black women for their contributions to pop culture as freely/quickly as they reward others. We are huge trendsetters, not second class citizens that get thrown crumbs. This isn’t anger. This is #information. It’s all love to MTV.
Nicki was nominated in the Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Female video categories at the year’s MTV VMAs.
And she concluded her Instagram post by thanking her fans for their support.
‘Kisses to my fans and thank you for my 3 nominations. #ThePinkprintTOUR tonight in VA! Over 15 thousand people. I can’t wait to see u guys,’ she finished.
Meanwhile, the latest star to weigh in on the feud is Katy Perry. The singer took it upon herself to comment on the scandal amid rumours that Taylor’s track Bad Blood was written about her own feud with Katy.
“Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalises on the take down of a woman…” Katy tweeted.
